The European Right Goes the Mainstream
As predicted, Europe's far-right scored big in Sunday's European Parliamentary elections. But some liberal commentators insist it's not that important.
EU-level politics are generally boring and arcane. Few understand how the staid institutions with similar-sounding names work and they can hardly be blamed for it. And yet, despite the often-incomprehensible nature of EU politics, Europeans did turn out to vote in the European Parliamentary elections on Sunday. Forecasts were generally correct: the results portend a dramatic, if uneven, shift to the right.
